A hemodialysis permacath is established in the central arteries to the patients who provision of AV fistulae is not possible or those who require dialysis upon maturation of AV fistula (Sharifi et al. The problem involving patient ignorance on hemodialysis through permacath was observed in the dialysis center where I am currently having practice hours. From my observation, majority of patients don’t have knowledge about the risks and complications that are associated to it. My capstone project proposal’s objective will be to educate and enlighten patients on risks associated with permacath dialysis as opposed to the use of fistula or graft. Descriptions of the problem A permacath is simply a catheter which is placed in the neck. Patient who dialyze via permacath without good knowledge about its risks end up with complications that are life threatening such like septic shock, septic arthritis, osteomvelitis, endocarnditis and epidural absences.
