NURS 6051 Interaction Between Nurse Informaticists and Other Specialists
Working as nurses in the modern world, we must be competent in our use of technology to record, retrieve and send information regarding our patients through various tools such as computers and monitors. Informatics is an aspect of nursing that requires the use of technology to collect, assess and utilize data to see trends in diseases, the effectiveness of interventions, and factors that affect healthcare (Joshua,2021). I like how you mentioned how informatics in nursing is present in practically every step of the process. The patient comes in and from then on, we collect several pieces of information on them such as lab results, patient demographic data, and the urgency of their issue. As nurses, we work together with doctors and nurse informaticists to collect, use and distribute important data regarding the patient.
As the use of technology in the medical field grows, so do the benefits and risks it provides. We must be careful that we protect our patient’s privacy when collecting and distributing data through electronic devices like computers. This could result in the patient suing the nurse or the hospital for invasion of privacy. However, if the nurses follow proper protocols and understand how to use this technology, communication between patient, doctor, and nurse can be made much faster and improve patient satisfaction and outcomes (Jibb et al,2020). I like how you mentioned the benefits of eliminating the manual patient recording system such as improving collaborative interactions, lowering costs, and increasing productivity and quality of care. In the future, nurse informaticists may even be replaced by AI robots who can collect, distribute and analyze data to be used by other healthcare professionals (Ronquillo et al,2021).
